Carl grew up on the South Side of Chicago, one of three kids in a house where money was discussed only in whispers until it wasn't a choice anymore. His first job out of college was reconciling ledgers at a small trading firm, tedious work until a coworker showed him a wallet address in 2013 and he stayed up three nights reading whitepapers instead of sleeping. He lost most of a signing bonus on a coin that went to zero before he ever made a cent, and he keeps the screenshot to show new clients what conviction without evidence costs. He built his consulting practice slowly, one skeptical small-business owner at a time, and still refuses referral fees from any exchange he recommends. Chicago winters, he says, taught him to sit through a drawdown without checking his phone every hour. He's married, and he and his wife are raising a young son who already knows what a seed phrase is.
