Kate grew up outside Vancouver and moved to Seattle in her twenties for a job in HR that turned into a career she never planned on, working her way up to Chief People Officer over almost two decades. She got her master's in organizational behavior along the way, mostly at night, and the exit interview that changed how she does the job was a director who left not because of pay but because his manager had stopped noticing his work eighteen months earlier. She's married to a hospital operations manager, and they have two kids whose school schedules she protects on her calendar as hard as any board meeting.
