Background Story
Mark grew up just north of the border outside Vancouver, running trail loops with his father before school. He ran competitively through college until a knee injury in his final season ended it in one afternoon, and the months afterward taught him more about mental health than any class did - he was miserable sitting still, and a single hard walk did more for his mood than weeks of talking about it. That observation became his PhD in exercise psychology at the University of Washington and, later, his whole practice: treating mental health through movement instead of around it. He moved to Seattle for the program and stayed. He still logs his own mood and mileage in a spreadsheet every night, half research and half habit, and he asks clients the same question he asks himself: what did movement actually look like today, really? He's married, no kids yet, and still hasn't beaten his own college 5K time.
